Lt. Colonel Glade L. Felix 1954 ~ 2007 Lt. Colonel Glade L. Felix, beloved husband, father and brother died Monday, June 11, 2007 in Al Udeid, Qatar. Lt. Colonel Felix was serving with the 379th Expeditionary Medical Group, United States Air Force assisting the medical needs of our military population in the Middle East. Lt. Colonel Felix was born in Springville, Utah, August 4, 1954 to the late Leo and Utahna Felix. He graduated from Springville High School. He received his B.S. degree from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah and his M.A. degree of Physical Therapy from Hahnemann University, Philadelphia, PA. He entered the United States Air Force in 1976 and served the past 31 years in both active and reserve duty. At the time of his death, Lt. Colonel Felix was affiliated with the 622nd Aeromedical Staging Squadron, Robins Air Force Base, Warner Robins, Georgia. He was a physical therapist and a key member of the military management team. He played a major role in ensuring the success of the squadron in meeting the many ongoing challenges of mission readiness. During his time at the 622nd, he traveled across the globe meeting the medical needs of both military and civilian populations. He had previously deployed to the 755th Medical Flight, Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. He was currently serving Al Udeid, Qatar. Both of these deployments were in support of OPERATIONS ENDURING FREEDOM AND IRAQI FREEDOM. Lt. Colonel Felix excelled in all areas of military training. His formal decorations included the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal. The awarding of an Air Force Meritorious Service Medal and 1st Oak Leaf Cluster is in process. His peers remember him as: "An excellent clinician! He was a front-runner in the health care field." "A consummate professional - continuously demonstrated his commitment to his discipline and to Air Force health care." "He was a highly respected field grade officer, meticulous in the areas of military dress, bearing, courtesy and demeanor." In addition to his love of his country and our freedoms, Glade dearly loved baseball and soccer and was an avid golfer. He influenced the lives of many young people through the years as a Sunday School teacher in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and as a community coach. He was instrumental in the establishment of youth soccer programs in South Georgia and served as Scout Master of the LDS Boy Scout Troop 418 for several years. He valued his friendships and associations made through these activities. Lt. Colonel Felix will be remembered throughout South Georgia for his work in the health field as a physical therapist prior to his deployment to Qatar. Lt. Colonel Felix was the loving husband of Cathie and loving father of Chris, Leo, Chelsea, Jim, Katie and Sean. He is also survived by his sister Geniel Larsen and husband Don; his brothers LaVar Felix and wife Carolyn, Jan Felix and wife Becky, Raymond Felix and wife Michelle; his mother-in-law Verlene Cullum; brother-in law Nelson Cullum and wife Nancy; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was especially fond of his niece Stacy Nance. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all.
