TRIBUTES

Honor your hero with thoughts, memories, images and stories.

  • My Hero, He made the ultimate sacrifice. For this, our Family is forever grateful. Uncle Frank was just 23 years old when he sacrificed his life. His passing forever changed the life of my Grandparents and his siblings, Jack Tedone and Mary (Tedone) DiGennaro. Their broken hearts never recovered. My Grandfather passed his love for his son Frank onto me. The memory of Uncle Frank has been a life long part of me. S/Sgt Tedone was a gunner on B-24J #42-73196, serving with the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 436th Bombardment Squadron. They were part of a formation of B-24s on a bombing mission to Insein, Burma, near Rangoon. After the bombing run, the B-24 was hit in the left wing by anti-aircraft fire and began smoking badly and dove sharply to the left, chased by three enemy fighters. They were last seen descending into a cloud bank. His parents were Dominick Tedone and Consiglia (DeChierico) Tedone. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and the Purple Heart. Because his body was not recovered, he is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing. Burial: Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila
