  • Elmer Earl Simon was one of six sons born to Conrad and Julia Simon. He was in the 36th Combat Engineers, company C. These were men who paved the way for the troops to follow. They built roads and bridges to help get troops and supplies to where the brass needed them to go. Elmer was accidently killed by his tentmate in May 1943, the day the Axis powers surrendered in Africa.Elmer had 3 other brothers who served in WWII. He was the only one to not make it home.
