Ed Mertzlufft was a son, brother, nephew and cousin.
He was born and raised in St. Louis and was inducted
into the army at Jefferson Barracks in 1942.
By the time he went overseas in 1944, he was a Staff Sergeant and a Squad leader in K Company, 3rd Battalion, 302nd Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division. Ed was killed in action on January 20, 1945 in Nennig, Germany during the fighting around the Siegfried Switch line (part of the Battle Of The Bulge). He is buried at Jefferson Barracks national cemetery in Saint Louis, Missouri.
He was 22 years old when he died.
