    Sgt. Troy David Jenkins
    Hometown: Evergreen, Alabama

Army Sgt. Troy David Jenkins 25. Died April 24, 2003 Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom assigned to B Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment based in Fort Campbell, Ky.; died from wounds received as a result of an explosion April 19 while on a dismounted patrol with other soldiers in Iraq. He died from his injuries at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany. Sgt. Jenkins made a courageous, split-second decision that ended his life, but saved those of a 7-year-old girl and several soldiers in his 187th Infantry Regiment. Sgt.Jenkins was critically wounded when an Iraqi child approached a group of soldiers with an unexploded cluster bomb. As the bomb went off, Jenkins threw himself over it.

Troy David Jenkins grew up in Evergreen, Alabama. He loved music. He loved to roam the woods. And he loved to go fishing. He was the kind of kid, if he had a problem, he'd take his radio out to the woods and try to think it out. He never got in any trouble. When he graduated from high school in 1995, Jenkins had already joined the Marines. He later joined the Army.

Sgt.Jenkins, who served in Afghanistan, was planning to leave the service in July and wanted to join the California Highway Patrol. He didn't want to leave his wife and two children.

Gold Star Mother Connie Gibson- All Troy ever wanted to be was an Evangelist, and preach Jesus. The military approached him in H.S. and talked him into twenty years and a pension, so he could evangelize and not have to ask people for money. Troy was six foot seven and a straight A student,so the military really worked for a while to talk him in, but he loved it. First four years in the Marine Corps, and then to fulfill a promise to his best friend, Troy went to the Army. 101st Airborne ,3/187, Rakkassans. He was from Evergreen ,Al., but left for the military service on Repton,Al. Troy ran toward the bomb, to save the others, not away to save himself. Much as Jesus went toward the cross to save us. I will always miss my baby of six, but I know where he is, with our Heavenly Father.

Let the memory of Troy David Jenkins be with us forever.....
