On Sunday, November 14, Families United was in Delaware for the State’s first Gold Star Family Day. After much work Governor Jack Markell signed a proclamation declaring November 14th "Delaware Gold Star Family Day."
Joining Delaware’s Gold Star Families to commemorate the day were Major General Vavala (Adjunct General of the Delaware National Guard), Lt. Governor Matt Denn, Attorney General Beau Biden and Senator Tom Carper who presented Delaware Gold Star Chair Judy Campbell with a framed copy of the proclamation. Following the ceremony, the attendees celebrated the proclamation, which took months to achieve, with lunch and live music.
Families United was honored to be a part of the inaugural day. Staff members travelled to Delaware with the National Gold Star Family Registry and showed families of the fallen how they can honor their Hero by creating a tribute on the Registry. Several of the families attending, including Senator Carper, searched and created a tribute to their Hero.
The State of Delaware has set an inspirational example by honoring the families in their states who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
