Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stephen M. Wells
    Hometown: North Egremont, Massachusetts
Stephen always aspired to join the Army. When he was younger, family members said they used to always see him playing soldier in the back yard. He participated in ROTC so he could join the Army immediately upon graduating. Stephen Wells joined the Army shortly after high school. He served in Bosnia, Thailand and South Korea.
Stephen went into the reserves first. At that time, he was also serving as a volunteer firefighter for the town of Egremont, Mass., and joined the Army full-time in 1993. He decided to go to officer training school to become a warrant officer so he could continue advancing his career in the Army. Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stephen M. Wells had just returned from spending about 15 months in Korea before being shipped off to Iraq. He had actually wanted to go out to Korea to the DMZ and volunteered for it. For his service in Iraq, Wells received a Bronze Star. Gold Star Mother Elizabeth Wells --“I can’t explain in words what kind of young man he was, he’s always been joyful and laughing and used to find the better part of things. Stephen took his three sons on walks, built rockets with them and helped them star gaze with a telescope. His first priority was his family"
